The French are passionate people and when it comes to food none are more so! They love cooking it, eating it, and in most cases downing a glass or two to accompany it, whether it is in the form of an aperitif, a different wine for each course or as a digestif to finish, they just enjoy the whole ritual.
Martine is a pupil of Pam's and they've developed a nice friendly relationship through their classes, and at the weekend we were invited round for a French lunch. We finally got there after running the maze of one way streets and 'route barrée' (road closed) signs, at one point we were on this estate and there didn't seem to be a way out. But it was worth the frustration and sweat as the meal was magnifique.
Martine was the perfect hostess and cook, and a good time was had by all, but it was my turn to drive, so the Bordeaux that accompanied the duck was in short measures, at least as far as I was concerned it was.
Pam and I hadn't done a long walk for some time so as the weather was still fine we got out at the weekend, with water, cake, and because the weather was on the turn; waterproofs. There's a nice cycle route, (it's almost all off road, well main road that is) that I like to ride, especially the stretch that goes through an avenue of trees and comes out in the grounds of a chateau. Anyway it was almost three and a half hours that we were out for, and it was a nice walk, despite the drizzle that we encountered. What we did notice however was that some of the trees, like the weather are on the turn.
News from the island; Kefalonia island that is. One of our correspondents has reported that re-cycling has hit Argostoli; well sort of. Special blue bins are for re-cyclable items but it seems that not many people are taking much notice of them. The Pay and Display parking system (also in Argostoli) is in place but it hasn't yet gone live, so the parking situation was the usual nightmare during the peak of summer. Congratulations to Kostas (one of the Taxi Brothers number TAZ 8057) and Stacy on the birth of their son, as yet I'm still waiting for the name, but knowing Kostas like I do that'll happen, but only 'when the mood takes him'!!!
Aston Villa news: They played Liverpool at home, and the result was a rather boring 0 - 0 draw; but a point is a point and nothing to be sniffed at.
Weather Word: As reported earlier the weather did break on Sunday while we were out, and it's been changeable all week, but it's never been cold.
And Finally. The World Cup qualifying matches started at the weekend. England beat Andorra in Barcelona 2 - 0. While my other team, France went down to the Austrians 3 - 1.
That's it for another week, all the best, Peter and Pam.
